Three amazing pieces of Italian design from the late 50s and early 60s. Fontana Arte’s occasional table (ca. 1958) and table lamp (ca. 1960) as well as Ettore Sottsass’s mirror (ca. 1957) are refined examples how designers incooperated traditional techniques and forms in the elaboration of modernity for home furnishing and accessories. Villa Necchi Campiglio is one of those magical places, where the aura of a certain era survived. Walking through the rooms feels like time travel, and yet the architecture and interiors radiate a very timeless and almost modern quality. Built between 1932 and 1935 by the Milanese architect Piero Portaluppi, the Villa has survived almost intact, both outside and inside.
